CE marking for aluminium and steel structures
As of July 2014, CE marking in line with NEN-EN 1090-1 has been compulsory for structural steel and aluminium components used in buildings.
If your production and quality systems are being monitored by a European-recognized institute, your company can be issued with a Certificate of Conformity. As an independent, European-designated Notified Body, SKG-IKOB can issue a Certificate of Conformity, officially stating that both your company and your product satisfy the requirements for CE marking.
The benefits of certification are:
Factory Production Control (FPC)
As a manufacturer, you must have a documented FPC system. The aim is to ensure that all products you bring onto the market meet the performance criteria stated in your CE marking. Your FPC system must consist of written procedures, regular inspections and tests and/or assessments.
Step-by-step plan for certification and CE marking
As a manufacturer of components for load-bearing aluminium and steel structures, there are a number of steps you must take before being allowed to use CE marking on your products.
Step 1: Development
Establishing a quality control system (FPC) that contains all the criteria from NEN-EN 1090-1.
Step 2: Implementation and application
You can apply to SKG-IKOB for certification after you have implemented the FPC system and worked with it for a certain period.
Step 3: Certification inspection
SKG-IKOB will decide whether the FPC system satisfies the criteria from NEN-EN 1090-1 during a documentation assessment and on-site audit.
Step 4: Issuing the certificate
If your products pass the inspection, you will be issued with a certificate and expected to mark the products with CE marking.
Certification via SKG-IKOB
SKG-IKOB is a registered Notified Body (NB 0960) and therefore authorized to carry out tests and inspections as part of the CE marking procedure.
